Everything is OK…

| Video, Words

Around 4:10: “You are born free, you will live free, you will die free. You are allowed to make a scene. You are allowed to scream for joy. You are allowed to complain. You are allowed to cry. You are allowed to love people. You are allowed to hug people. We are living in a world where we are starting to feel scared, we are starting to forget just how divine and special we are as human beings.”

The World is a Beautiful Place….

| Words

The world is a beautiful place
to be born into
if you don’t mind happiness
not always being
so very much fun
if you don’t mind a touch of hell
now and then
just when everything is fine
because even in heaven
they don’t sing
all the time

The world is a beautiful place
to be born into
if you don’t mind some people dying
all the time
or maybe only starving
some of the time
which isn’t half bad
if it isn’t you

Oh the world is a beautiful place
to be born into
if you don’t much mind
a few dead minds
in the higher places
or a bomb or two
now and then
in your upturned faces
or such other improprieties
as our Name Brand society
is prey to
with its men of distinction
and its men of extinction
and its priests
and other patrolmen

and its various segregations
and congressional investigations
and other constipations
that our fool flesh
is heir to………………..

10 Amazing Parkour Videos For Your Viewing Pleasure

| Circus, Randomness, Video

I have tried my hand at parkour (freerunning) multiple times, but I have found that it is not for me. Jumping 15 story buildings require a pair of balls that I don’t think I will ever have. However, I have much respect for the people who do. Here are some of the best:

This is the best parkour vid I have ever seen. So much fun. (And shirtless russian men as an added bonus.)

Cirque Du Soleil is Taking Over NYC!

| Circus, Video

cirque-du-soleilThe good ol’ US of A rarely gets a good dose of the beauty and imagination that is the traveling Cirque Du Soleil shows. Sure, Vegas has their static shows, but the east coast is often neglected, with maybe one show a year…maybe. But fret no more die hard circus freaks… Cirque is here to take over NYC!!

Wintuk (which has actually graced NYC with its presence for the past 2 years) will be opening at the Wamu theatre November 11th.  Then on February 4th, 2010 Banana Spheel opens at the Beacon Theatre. This vaudeville-ish show is the first of its kind from Cirque, fusing dance, music and comedy to create something truly one-of-a-kind. THEN Ovo, Cirque’s brand spanking new insect-infested show, hits Randall’s Island Park on May 27, 2010. Also, rumor has it that in 2011 Cirque is planning on establishing a 4 month summer extravaganza in Radio City Music Hall. Oh the excitement!

Perhaps the best part about Cirque finding its new home in NYC is the candid videos of various New Yorkers getting Punk’d Cirque-style.

Check out more of the videos here. And learn all about Cirque Du Soleil’s invasion of NYC here.

Say It Ain’t So -A Day Without Cats

| KITTENS!, Video

No Kittens For You!

Today is 9/9/09.. a day of ominous mystery and also a day WITHOUT CATS!  Like many internet dwellers I look forward to my daily dose of pussy(sorry I couldn’t help it). It’s like coffee. Who does not enjoy such things as cats eating spaghetti, ninja cats, even cats playing a freaking piano!?  Apparently the evil bastards at Urlesque.com don’t. They have deemed today “9.9.09A Day Without Cats on the Internet”. I call it bullshit. Don’t they know that ferrets pose a much greater threat on society?

Following Urlesque’s reckless behavior is Cute Overload who have even created a dramatic video for the event. Its like a total apocalypse! However, In their defense they are doing an admirable job of replacing fluffy kittens with fat puppies, pandas (always a good choice) and of course the obligatory stoat.

Some have managed to get around the ban. Like Best Week Ever, who has posted pictures of a bearcat. But WTF is a bearcat?  Petsugar also posted one of my fave Conan clips of puppies dressed as the-animal-that-shall-not-be-named.

Luckily, the ever reliable Icanhascheezeburger.com has given the day a big FU and has been posting the best of lolcats all day long. Thank you Icanhascheezeburger.com for saving me from a day rolled up in the corner of my bed, crying due to lack of kittens. THE DAY IS SAVED!

For the Love of Flow

| Books, Not Self Help

I just finished reading Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s “Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience”.  Csikszentmihalyi (who I lovingly refer to as sisszenmantilyhakiirarghyigjo) writes so eloquently about this state of mind that you almost forget you are reading a psychology book. It doesn’t come off as a self help book either.  Just a fountain of useful information about how creativity and concentration can make you happier. – A lazy brain is a sad brain.

My absolute favorite part of this book is when he points out the problem with our culture of worshiping entertainment. Keep in mind this book was written in the 80’s, but it is oh so relevant today. It seems like today everyone is completely lost without their cell phones, the Internet, television, or games. Most people are so consumed with what everyone else is doing, that they forget about themselves.

“The tremendous leisure industry that has arisen in the last few generations has been designed to help fill free time with enjoyable experiences. Nevertheless, instead of using our physical and mental resources to experience flow, most of us spend many hours each week watching celebrated athletes playing in enormous stadiums. Instead of making music, we listen to platinum records cut by millionaire musicians. Instead
of making art, we go admire paintings that brought in the highest bids at the latest auctions. We do not run risks acting on our own beliefs, but occupy hours each day watching actors who pretend to have adventures, engaged in mock-meaningful action.
This vicarious participation is able to mask, at least temporarily, the underlying emptiness of wasted time. But it is a very pale substitute for attention invested in real challenges. The flow experience that results from the use of skills leads to growth; passive entertainment leads nowhere. Collectively we are wasting each year the equivalent of millions of years of human consciousness. The energy that could be used to focus on complex goals, to provide for enjoyable growth, is squandered on patterns of simulation that only mimic reality. Mass leisure, mass culture, and even high culture when attended to passively and for extrinsic reasons — such as the wish to flaunt one’s status — are parasites of the mind. They absorb psychic energy without providing substantive strength in return. They leave us more exhausted, more disheartened than we were before.”

What are you doing with your life? Are you wasting time passively consuming culture? Are you living a life you don’t really want because cause it is “just what you do”? Or are you a creating a life that is all your own?

Go my child…live and love -that’s all you need to do.

Ponies and unicorns and puppies, oh my!

| Randomness

About 2 years ago I purchased the poniesandunicorns.com domain in a sudden fit of inspiration that happened on a Sunday morning at around 6am. I woke out of a sound sleep and said aloud, “Yes, that is genius! I like ponies! I like unicorns! This will totally work!” I proceeded to purchase the domain.  Then I went back to sleep. Upon waking up again I realized I had no idea what to do with my purchase. To be quite honest I still don’t, but it is just too good to squat in.

So that brings us to the present. I have decided to fill up this space on the interwebs with my incoherent ramblings, and other various interests of mine. They may or may not interest you too.

Since 99% of my waking hours are spent online I consider myself somewhat of an expert on internet memes, social media, and bizarre trendiness that lurks around every corner of this beautiful thing we call the internet. I spend endless hours searching out information and visual stimuli on a variety of topics. Future posts may be about (but most definitely not limited to):

Cute and Adorable things
If you can’t tell already, cute things make me happy. I love puppies and bunnies and mice and kittens. They bring me up from my darkest of places. My brain plays the nom nom song on repeat. Cuteoverload.com is my lord and personal savior. If you are lucky, I will share all of these happy, fluffy, snorgling balls of fun with you.

Art and Inspiration
I think everyone should have a constant showcase of inspiration at their fingertips. I am going to try my best to fill this site with the work of photographers, digital manipulators,  website designers, street artists, crafters, performance artists, and anyone else who makes their creativity visible to the world. With the proper credit always given, of course. I hope to one day have enough internet cred to write my own guides for achieving inspiration and tapping into creativity.

Productivity and Self Development
I’m a sucker for self help. I said it.  Not “He’s Just Not That Into You” brand self help. The kind that helps you become the best person you can be. How to do what you love and make the most out of every moment you have. I think that life is precious and every moment should mean something. I am not  by far a guru but I have come very far from where I was 5 years ago, and I would like to share some of the things I have learned.

The Circus
The past year has sucked me deep into the circus. I have been training as an aerialist and it has changed my life in more ways than I could ever imagine. You learn more about yourself hanging by your foot from a rope 20ft in the air than you ever will on the ground. I would like to track my progress here, as well as share some circus related inspiration such as videos, art, and music.

Entertainment and Reviews
My brain gets a constant barrage of music, movies and books. If I find some good stuff, I will share a review.

Health and Fitness
Obviously i’m a huge fitness buff. I also believe in the healing powers of certain foods. I think yoga can save lives. Yeah i’m a hippie.. so what?

All in all, this is just a personal blog. Filled with stuff about me, me, me!!! This is a learning experience, and I hope eventually this blog will be less about me and more about you. But for now I have to go with what I know.
